Goran’s benching is Dragic!

Another day, another fantasy basketball casualty in Phoenix. This time Goran Dragic, fantasy basketball point guard extraordinaire, was benched for the second half of the Suns’ embarrassing blow out loss in Detroit last night. Instead, P.J. Tucker got 26 minutes of burn from Alvin Gentry. Hey, why not, right? If Alvin is going to go down he may as well go down playing P.J. Tucker! That’s like going broke with J7o for no good reason other than pure stupidity. Yes, I know it was a blow out but still, now you’re blaming the guy who has gone 15.8 ppg/2.9 rpg/6.8 apg/.473 FG/.750 FT with 2.1 spg and 1.7 3PM per? Take a look at what he’s working with, son! What more do you want? Rhetorical! Anyway, until a rotation gets settled, Goran an Marcin Gortat are the only two guys worth owning on this team. The other guys I’d probably still own are Michael Beasley and Luis Scola. Yes, Scola despite his recent benching, his upside is a little too high to drop for my taste unless you’re in a shallow league, then fine. I also warned you last week not to put all your eggs in one basket with Markieff Morris, though he’s certainly worth owning right now and as for Jared Dudley and Shannon Brown? Ewww.

Here’s what else I saw in fantasy basketball last night:

Damian Lillard – 20/2/5 with 2 steals and 4 threes on 6-21 FG. Hmm, that makes two poor shooting nights in a row. Just for fun, I’m going to track Damian’s FG percentage which is now down to .429. This is what my life has come to, I track Damian Lillard’s FG% just for fun. Sigh.

Wesley Matthews – 6/2/1 with 2 steals and a three. Has a sprained thumb bone and may possibly be forced to miss a game or three in the near future. If he does, keep one eye on Will Barton and the other eye on Luke Babbitt. Try to keep them both in front of you though otherwise your eyes will get strained looking in different directions.

Nene Hilario – 6/6/2 with a steal in 19 minutes. My only advice if you own Nene is to move him quick quick the next time he plays 30 minutes and drops 17/9 with a couple of blocks. I mean like pronto!

Gary Neal – 19/4/2 with 3 steals and a three. He also led the team with 16 field goal attempts. Kawhi Leonard is close to returning so the carriage may turn into a pumpkin soon. Keep riding the carriage though … for now.

Nikola Vucevic – 2/5/1 with a steal and a block in 16 lonely minutes. That makes two stinkers in a row for Nikola which does concern me a bit. Nikola make hecman angry. Nikola no play good. Monitor situation. Say it like Ivan Drago would. It works better that way!

Andray Blatche – 17/13/1 with 2 steals after Kris Humphries got the heave ho in the second quarter. Andray Blatche has talent! Andray Blatche can score the ball! Andray Blatche can rebound the ball! Andray Blatche doesn’t spell his name Andre! Sell Humphries  on name recognition if you can, his minutes are getting cut into by Andray and Reggie Evans a bit too much for my taste and that’s just annoying! Nobody likes annoying.

Jason Terry – 13/4/2 with a steal and a three in 35 minutes. This qualifies as a good line for JT these days and probably only because Rajon Rondo got the boot early. He’s no JT of yesteryear! He’s not droppable in standard leagues but I wouldn’t hesitate to lose him in shallow leagues for a hot free agent.

Ben Gordon – 26/4/3 with a steal and 7 threes. I’m just not seeing enough out of Ben to recommend a pick up. Nice game though, Ben. Well done!

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist -6/3/1 with a steal and a block in 24 minutes. Since I touted MKG as a possible rookie of the year challenger he’s lost his mojo a bit. Don’t blame me, man, mmm-mmm, not my fault. Well, maybe a little. Hold.

Bismack Biyombo – 6/8/0 with 4 blocks in 27 minutes. On the season he’s averaging around 19 mpg and if he can get that up to 23-25 minutes per, he’d be better than say, oh, I don’t know, let’s say Emeka Okafor. Go ahead and spec grab him in deep leagues and monitor elsewhere. Cheap blocks, y’all!

Josh Smith – 17/13/6 with 3 steals and 5 blocks. I think the time to buy low has slipped away. Slip sliding away, slip sliding away, the more your nearer your destination, the more you’re slip sliding away. You know. Like the song!

Lou Williams – 17/1/5 with a steal and 3 threes. Finally coming around, finally coming around. Lou, you’re making me look good, bro! I really do have a crush on you for some reason. If he was dropped in your standard league that person clearly isn’t reading this blog!

Rodney Stuckey – 18/5/4 with a steal and a block. By now you know I am the only one who has given Rodney his due respect. It’s been a rough November but the opening is there for production. It really is. If he can just stay healthy I think the arrow is still pointing up. Games like this make me believe anyway. You believe too if he’s sitting out there on your wire!

Andre Drummond – 6/9/0 with a steal and two blocks in 25 mintues. I’d love to see Andre get a consistent 25 minutes of burn, I really would, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Continue to monitor though. Or I will monitor for you!

Darren Collison – DNP – Finger. It’s been a strange, strange week for DC owners. First, he comes off the bench on Tuesday but plays 30 minutes anyway. Then the coach says Collison is his starting point guard. Then he’s a DNP last night with the finger bone problem. Then Dallas announces they are signing Derek Fisher today. Then the coach says he likes Darren coming off the bench and Fisher will start. Um, okaaaaay. If you read me regularly you know I’ve never been DC’s biggest fan. That said, I was totally cool with him as long as he was getting 32 minute of burn nightly like he has been but if he’s only going to get say 26 minutes of burn? Meh, not so much. If I owned him (and I don’t anywhere) I”d look to move him for fair value quick, quick.

Jae Crowder – 2/3/1 with 2 steals and a block in 26 minutes. Now starting over Elton Brand. Burp.

Nate Robinson – 14/2/6 with 2 steals and 2 threes. The game was over by the end of the 3rd quarter so I’m not seeing much value in anomaly stat lines from this game. Anomaly is the word of the day. Go look it up! Assign same value to Nate as you had yesterday morning, though I would love to see him get burn. Insert sad face emoticon here.

J.R Smith – 2/2/0 with a steal in 18 minutes. This line is explained by a few things. First, the game wasn’t super close by the end of the third quarter so there was no need for J.R. to see big minutes. Second, Steve Novak is from Wisconsin and had his parents at the game. Hence, he went all bat shit playing 40 minutes and reigning 5 threes. Now you know, you’re welcome. Carry on!

Pablo Prigioni – 11/3/7 with a steal and 2 threes. With Jason Kidd now out indefinitely, Pablo may pick up extra minutes so just monitor. The Kidd injury is certainly great news for J.R. Smith owners though!

Ersan Ilyasova – 0/4/1 with a steal in 13 minutes. I had him as a Drop last Friday then he slightly resurrected on Monday with his first good game of the year albeit in only 22 minutes. I told you to expect inconsistency on Tuesday regardless but he’s just been consistently bad! I’m really ok if you lost him. Really, it’s true but you already knew that.

Andrea Bargnani – DNP-Ankle. Here’s what I said just yesterday about Andrea: By the way, I wonder what the over/under date is on him hurting his back and missing 3 weeks. I jinxed him! I guess feel free to stream Ed Davis on Friday if Andrea is to miss more time.

Daequan Cook – Started in place of the injured Chandler Parsons and dropped 18/7/4 with a steal, block and 3 threes. Oh, I’m starting to get it, it’s whoever plays small forward for the Rockets! With Carlos Delfino expected back this weekend, I’m not rushing out to grab Daequan. Monitor and stream if both Parsons and Delfino are to miss more time!

Alexey Shved – Surprisingly played 36 minutes off the bench and dropped 17/2/0 with 3 threes. Was it really necessary for Andrei Kirilenko to play 41 minutes the night before? Just wondering. Consider streaming if AK47 is to miss any more time.

Chauncey Billups – 7/0/3 with a steal in a three in his season debut. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Jamal Crawford dropped 11/1/3 with a steal and a three on 2-10 FG in 27 minutes. Hold Jamal and let someone else grab Billups. Preferably a girl, said Chauncey.

  1. Hey Hec, hows it going?

Is Charlie V worth a grab in 14-team league dropping Sanders?

I am moving into pissed off territory with Beasley after his 2pts 1-6FG night, and thinking about dropping him for T. Ross or Ariza. Your thoughts pls?

Thanks so much as always. It’s good to have a fun fantasy hoops blog around :)

  2. Hec,

Was just offered Felton and Noah for Carmelo. Am I nuts for even considering this?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

  3. @Baller: It’s going well, thanks! I think Sanders brings more upside than Charlie V so I’d probably hold. I can’t blame you about B-Easy but I still prefer him over Ross and Ariza. Thanks for the kind words!

@Danny: Depends on the makeup of your team but, generally, I prefer to keep the best player. Felton is traditionally a fast starter then fades a bit. Thanks for the kind words!

  4. I’ve got Sanders, Marion, and Stuckey sitting on the wire. Should I drop Gordon Hayward for any one of these guys? He’s been real quiet due to the recent lineup moves – you think this will last?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi idol Hec,

I was offered JJ Hickson for my Bargnani. He needs ft%,3pts and pts and I need fg%. Should I accept it?

    This is my team:

    Deron Williams
    Mo Williams
    Aaron Brooks
    Kyle Singler
    Andrea Bargnani
    Paul George
    Kevin Love
    Nikola Pekovic
    Patrick Patterson
    Luis Scola
    Nikola Vucevic
    Gordon Hayward
    Chauncey Billups

  6. @Sayrus777: Thanks!

@Colonel Kitchen: I’d stay patient with Hayward, he has the most upside.

@Boleros: I think JJ serves your purpose more so, sure, go for it.

  7. Hec,

my team is Lowry, Waiters, Mo Williams, Joe Johnson, G. Wallace, Paul Millsap, Z. Randolph, Al Jefferson, Pekovic, Valaniunas, G. Vasquez, R. Anderson, and K. Irving

Lou Williams just popped up on the waivers…i know he’s worth acquiring but I’m conflicted over who to drop and pick for him….Valaniunas, Waiters or Williams?

  8. Hey Hec,

I am a new fan of the blog. Good stuff! I want to know if I was crazy to trade Ellis, Cousins, and Noah for Durant! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have Durant AND LeBron!

  9. @Dubs: I’d lose Waiters, his FG isn’t helping you.

@phanna: Thanks! Nobody will accuse of you being cheap, that’s for sure. Depends on your depth to really give the best answer but, in general, I think you’re not crazy, KD is a ridiculous monster and Cousins’ percents hurt.

  10. Hi Hec!

Who is better – Harrison Barnes or Kawhi Leonward?

Barnes has mins locked up for the rest of the season but does not contribute much outside of pts and rbds while leonard can give more stls + blks..

  11. @G: Hi! You really can’t go wrong with either but certainly if you’re looking for steals and some extra blocks at the expense of a few points and a board per then Kawhi is your guy. It’s really a need based decision more than anything.

  12. Howdy Hec, great write-up once again :) Just wanted to comment on Andray Blatche – news is that Lopez has sprained his right foot, the one he broke twice last season though X-rays are negative this time & he’s only expected out for 2 games. Blatche will replace him as starting C & would be a great stream in daily leagues.

If Lopez turns out to be hurt worse than they’re saying right now, and last year they took a couple of weeks to tell us his foot was cactus, then Blatche will become an extremely hot pickup.

  13. @Andrew: Howdy! Thanks! About an hour or so ago someone asked me on Twitter if he should stream Blatche or Evans with Brook out at least the next 2 games and I advised to grab Blatche so I totally agree with your assessment. I also expect Gerald Wallace to pick up some of the scoring slack.

  14. @Daniel: I’d do that.

@Sayrus777: For the next two games and beyond if Brook is out longer, I’d rather Blatche but without more information right now, Jamison is safer.

  15. Hello,

I currently have Ersan Ilyasova, Markieff Morris, and Kevin Seraphin, in a 9cat yahoo 12 league. Who would you drop (I’ve got an excess in blocks) and do you have any pickup recommendations? (Harrison Barnes is available on free agents but there might be someone better)

    Thanks,
    Devin

  16. Hec! I still have 28 moves for the season and I feel like I need another SF and may be over loaded with guards. Are Beal and Rivers worth dropping for Jared Dudley, Matt Barnes, or Thabo Sefolosha or is Rivers/beal’s upside (probably in the second half of the season) too much to let go for those guys? Thabo is at least consistent but has a low ceiling and even with limited minutes Dudley at least produces something when he’s on the floor, same with Barnes. Thanks man!

  17. @allballs: I agree to hold for now. Those guys all bring limited upside. Not that I’m loving Beal and Rivers right now but, like you said, long season!

  18. Hey hec you think I should offer Rivers for Tristan Thompson? is this that buy low window you’re talking about? owner put him on the block and is looking for PG/SG, 3ptm, and Assists so Rivers could work. do you see that being a reasonable offer? I don’t want to be the “annoying guy” ha

  19. or Beal. So out of Beal, Rivers, Foye in what order should I make an offer for Tristan Thompson and would any of them be reasonable based on his wants/needs? Thanks for your help

  20. i’m thinking Rivers would be the easiest seeing as he could provide more of his needs. I could use a little more help on rebounds and blocks, though Tristan isn’t blockin too many bawls this season….yet?

  21. Hi Hec,

    Here’s my team, h2h, 12 teams, 9 cats.

    Kyrie
    Lin
    Harden
    Parsons
    David Lee
    Affalo
    Reddick
    Pekovic
    Nikola Vucevic
    Kawhi Leonard
    Nate Robinson (droppable)
    Stuckey (just picked up, droppable)
    and Anthony Davis

This guy is interested in Ant Davis, and he’s willing to trade Curry for him. My team is already soft in rebounding and blocks. I was thinking of punting blocks. He said he wanted more than a 1 for 1, and I was thinking of proposing, Davis and Reddick/kawhi or Afflalo for Curry and his JJ hickson. Both are injuries risk, but I would think Curry, Harden and Kyrie when he gets back will do pretty well for me. What do you think? Thanks man, love your blog.

  22. @allballs: Offer Rivers first. Tristan hasn’t been getting it done much lately so yes, it’s that buy low scenario for you. If he says no then offer him choice of the other two. Any of them are fine to go in this type of deal.

@BeardnBrow: Thanks! Your team needs Davis more than it needs Curry but if you can somehow get JJ Hickson with Currty then that’s a no brainer for you. Offer his choice of Kawhi or AA with Davis for Curry/Hickson. I’m guessing he won’t go for it with JJ though. To get Curry and HIckson I’d even consider offering Redick in a 3 for 2. If you’re intent on getting Curry even without HIckson then offer Davis/Redick for him. Worry about blocks later. Good luck!
